[This follow-up of our story involves guns like the TX, which you can read about it in the specific thread.As you might have realized the whole idea was to fit the mechanism in it's initial factory buttstock. Needless to say, the only necessary thing to do is to simply cock the gun. No other action is needed. The last gun that went into George's caring hands was a HW 80. A gun with a long history, known for it's power but also for the powerful slaps iτ generously gives to the shooters cheek.The stock is (most probably) from a first generation HW 77One thing's for sure. A good rifle needs good sights, especially open sights (in accordance το thοse strange days we live in)All of you who have spent even a bit of time with open sights, definately know that onceset correctly we don't have to mess with them ever again. Depending on the target's distance, we simply "put less or more needle" on the target, thus aiming bellow or above itThis method might provide it's kicks but what about the shooter that wants to digsomething more from open sights in order to shoot at quite long distances?Definitely, clicks are not so repeatable since rear sights, for the majorityof them, are made like child toys, quality-wise. On the other hand we've all seen that if we make a deviation with many clicks usually the sights lean to the left or right because these devices might have the accuracy but they lack the sturdiness. So how could we lift the sights up and down without leaning to the right or left? Tip top quality sights is the answer you'll give but we all know they do come along with an unbearable cost! Another solution that does not necessarily mean "I have the eye of an eagle" Well, since 1690 some Chinese provided a solution with the mod 62. The back sights would go up and down in a fixed position meaning they didn't had a windage setting for right and left. Let me draw your attention to the fact that they had distinct numbered pre-calibrated positions! As for the windage setting they had a wedging front that you would hit according to where you wanted it to go and once it was there, that was that. You simply left it there unless you loaded a different kind of pellet Of course 50 years later things have changed, the tools are available, ideas are tested and some hands are capable of making it happen.Behold! Here is a back sight mechanism were you can safely adjust it's height because it slides on a rail that does not allow any horizontal leaning. Of course it has pre-calibrated positionsWell, you might say that this works fine. It's like having a red-dot on an scope. You simply figure it out and that's all. Right?But what about windage??? Are we gonna bang the front sight till we set our zero point?Someone had a different opinion on the matter...Pre-calibrated as well, from both sides to suit everyones needsPay attention to the breathtaking details of this mechanical porn!The headless allen (two of them)It pushes a spring that pushes a steel bead......which is guided through the rails of the adjusting screw !!!As you have noticed here (I place it back in)the cam screw assures that we have surgical accuracy that stays put no matter what! :O :O :OOf course we can use any HW needle we prefer And here is the setback trigger as a great addition to all that....I keep looking at these photos (Special thanks to George and Stephane ) and the first thought that comes to mind is that these things can not be real! They must be from another planet.I won't comment on their functional side of view (they do work!) , if they suit my granpa's likes (I simply don't care ) or their anesthetics (they are ). However I WILL stand to the fact that sheet of white paper and aluminum was all that needed to have them created, Kudos to you guys for your great work!!!
